What Is US Tech 100 Doing Today

US Tech 100 is our name for the Nasdaq 100, the index of the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange, dominated by the mega-cap technology names. We track it through the QQQ ETF, the exchange-traded fund that holds the index, so the price shown is the fund's price, a fraction of the index level, and the percentage move is the same.

Every 3 hours we score the latest US equity and technology headlines on the same 0 to 100 scale we use for the 8 major currencies, then compare the US Tech 100 score with the US dollar score from the same cycle. The gap between the two gives the US Tech 100 read: equity sentiment running ahead of the dollar leans the index up, the dollar running ahead leans it down.

How to read the bias: A gap above +10 means a clear US Tech 100 upside skew, below -10 a clear downside skew. Anything from -10 to +10 is Neutral: the US Tech 100 and the dollar are evenly matched in the headlines and there is no clear lean.

US Tech 100 Profile

  • Quote: the QQQ ETF price in US dollars, a fraction of the Nasdaq 100 index level; watch the percentage move, not the dollar figure
  • Index: the 100 largest non-financial companies on the Nasdaq, weighted by market value, so a handful of technology giants carry most of the weight
  • Pip convention on this site: 1 pip is $0.01 on the ETF price. Index CFDs are quoted on the index level with their own point values, so check your own account specification
  • Trading hours: New York hours, 09:30 to 16:00 Eastern time (13:30 to 20:00 UTC in US summer time, 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter), Monday to Friday. Outside those hours the last close is shown
  • Related markets: US 500 and Dow 30 (the other US benchmarks), BTC/USD (risk appetite), USD/JPY

What Moves US Tech 100

The index reacts to the technology earnings and AI spending story and to the rates backdrop more than any other benchmark. Here is what to watch on each side:

US Tech 100 (NDX) side

  • Mega-cap technology earnings, guidance and capital spending on AI
  • Chip demand, export controls and supply chains
  • Federal Reserve decisions and Treasury yields, which weigh most on long-duration growth stocks
  • US inflation, jobs and growth data against expectations
  • Risk appetite: volatility, flows and the direction of crypto

US Dollar (USD) side

  • Fed (FOMC) rate decisions and the tone of the press conference
  • US CPI and PCE inflation prints
  • NFP non-farm payrolls (first Friday of the month)
  • US Treasury yields, particularly the 2-year and 10-year
  • Broad dollar strength: a rallying dollar is a headwind for anything priced in it

The US Tech 100 gets its own score from 0 to 100, where 50 is neutral. The US Tech 100 read compares that score with the US dollar score from the same cycle: a gap above +10 is Bullish, below -10 is Bearish, and anything in between is Neutral.
Why is the price the QQQ ETF and not the index?
Index levels are licensed data, so the reference price on this page is the QQQ ETF, the exchange-traded fund that holds the Nasdaq 100. Its price is a fraction of the index level and moves by the same percentage, which is what the session calls are scored on.
When does the US Tech 100 trade?
The US stock market is open in New York hours, 09:30 to 16:00 Eastern time (13:30 to 20:00 UTC in US summer time, 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter), Monday to Friday. About US Tech 100

US Tech 100 is the Nasdaq 100, the index of the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange. It is weighted by market value, so a handful of technology giants carry most of the weight, and it is the market's cleanest read on how investors see technology profits and the spending on artificial intelligence.

The biggest forces are technology earnings and the Fed. Results and guidance from the mega-caps, and what they say about AI spending and chip demand, set the tone; Federal Reserve policy and Treasury yields decide how much future growth is worth today, and growth stocks feel a move in yields more than the broader market. Inflation and jobs data move the index through the Fed; export controls, tariffs and geopolitics move it through risk appetite.

The US market trades in New York hours, 09:30 to 16:00 Eastern time (13:30 to 20:00 UTC in US summer time, 14:30 to 21:00 UTC in winter), Monday to Friday, so the US Tech 100 gets a New York session call only. The reference price is the QQQ ETF, a fraction of the index level, and on this site one pip is $0.01 on that price. Trading index CFDs carries a high level of risk, so size positions with care.
